Note from Bill Dobbs about the piece - Kudos to The New York Times for heralding Reform Sex Offender Laws (RSOL), a coalition of groups trying to dial down the hysteria about “sex offenders.” There’s nascent organizing around the country which has been mostly off the radar screen; those reform efforts are proceeding without any significant support from civil liberties groups, institutional funders, etc. This article gives the organizing a boost and hopefully there will be more coverage in the future. Just four years ago in Boston at RSOL’s first national gathering concerns about possible disruptions hung in the air. RSOL has endured which is itself cause for optimism; now a key media outlet – one which, it must be noted, has contributed in its news pages to the ongoing moral panic over underage sex – is paying attention.
